Past Statistics

ACSA has prepared a series of Asset under Custody tables which rank providers in Australia based on the size of their assets under custody in various categories. Industry practice separates assets which are held in Australia (domestic assets) and those held outside of Australia (international assets). We also separate assets which are not held directly by the custodian and refer to those assets as sub-custody assets.

The figures presented in the tables are as provided to ACSA by its member organisations.

Assets Under Custody for Australian Investors

Total Assets under custody for Australian Investors is defined as the total of Australian assets for Australian clients and Foreign assets for Australian clients. This is the summation of 'Australian Assets Under Custody for Australian Investors' and 'Non-Australian Assets Under Custody for Australian Investors'.

Assets Under Administration for Australian Institutions

(Not held in custody)

Assets under Administration (not held in custody) is defined as assets for which the ACSA member is contractually obligated to provide an administration service but that are not held in custody by that member. Typically this may include back office administration and record keeping services provided to investments managers for assets they manage on behalf of their clients (for example a large Australian superannuation fund) that may have appointed its own custodian.
