Sydney, AUSTRALIA The Australian Custodial Services Association (ACSA) today released new asset servicing industry statistics for the six-months ending 31 December 2018 and shared insights on long-term changes in the sector.

The 31 December 2018 statistics show that assets under custody (AUC) for Australian investors now totals $3.58 trillion, down marginally (1.2 percent) on the 30 June 2018 total. Of the total assets under custody, $2.33 trillion was invested in domestic assets which moved backwards by 3.4 percent since 30 June 2018. The flattening of growth is largely due to valuation effects, with most asset classes falling over the six months to 31 December 2018.

Of total assets under custody for Australian investors, $1.25 trillion was invested offshore, which grew 3.1 percent since 30 June 2018. These latest numbers show the allocation of total assets to international markets has reached almost 35 percent. The amount of inbound overseas client investment into Australia (assets held in sub-custody) finished the year at $1.50 trillion down slightly on the prior period.
